Phototherapy is a common procedure in the neonatal period. However there is great controversy in the literature about when and at which serum bilirubin levels phototherapy and exchange transfusion should be indicated. The aim of this paper is to review the literature and to suggest guidelines to help pediatricians in deciding when to treat nonhemolitic jaundice in full-term newborn infants.
